Jasper National Park Visitors Guide | Exploring with Tourism Jasper

As visitors to Jasper, we respectfully acknowledge that Jasper National Park is located in Treaty 6 and Treaty 8, as well as the traditional lands of the Beaver, Cree, Ojibway, Secwépemc, Stoney and Métis.

From ultra-relaxed mountain lodges to backcountry camping, it’s easy to understand why a visit to Jasper National Park is known to be the perfect mountain getaway for any style of traveler seeking some adventure.

We were recently invited by Tourism Jasper to visit Jasper National Park and couldn’t have been more excited to join them for adventures both rugged and relaxed, and while all experiences mentioned in today’s post were gifted by Tourism Jasper, all opinions and the choice to share them are our own.

Jasper National Park extends over 11,000 square kilometers and is the largest National park in the Canadian Rockies. Located just over 3 hours West of Edmonton and around 5 hours Northwest of Calgary, the temperature in Jasper ranges from -20C to +25C depending on the season (and elevation) so packing in layers (no matter the season) is recommended ... especially in the Spring and Fall.

Jasper National Park has no shortage of hikes and adventures to offers its visitors, but we started our trip by experiencing the wilderness in three very different ways.

WARRIOR WOMEN FIRESIDE CHAT

We started our adventures in Jasper by attending a warrior women fireside chat with Matricia Brown.

Matrcia is a singer, songwriter, musician, drummer, artist and educator, and we found ourselves truly captivated by her knowledge and passion for opening up the conversation surrounding Indigenous culture in Alberta.

We felt immediately welcome in her circle and the information and stories that were shared there kept us engaged and inspired by the land around as we enjoyed all of the tours and adventures that followed.

WILD CURRENT OUTFITTERS CANOE TOUR

Another of our favorite adventures was our tour of Pyramid Lake by canoe (don’t worry - I was not in charge of steering) with Wild Current Outfitters.

The Wild Current Outfitters Pyramid Lake canoe trip was the perfect way to start off our first full day of adventures in the park. Starting just before 9:00 am, we were the only travelers on the lake for the majority of our tour and we were blown away by the mountain views and sounds of wildlife that surrounded us as we paddled.

Mid-way through our tour, we stopped at a small, secluded beach for a glamping style picnic of hot coffee, hot chocolate, fruit and baked goods from Bear’s Paw Bakery and I must admit - it set the tone for a perfect day outdoors.

JASPER SKYTRAM

After learning and exploring on the land and on the lake, we took to the sky with Jasper SkyTram for an aerial view of the region and surrounding mountain range.

Jasper SkyTram provides an experience unlike any other in Canada at 2,263 meters and with easy access to hiking trails in the alpine zone of the Rockies. Hang out on the boardwalk and enjoy the views, or hike a little further to the upper viewpoints with 360 degree views of the surrounding mountain range.

These three experiences were just the beginning though, and now that we have our bearings straight we are looking forward to bringing you along for more great adventures as we explore Jasper National Park and tour some beautiful options for accommodations in the area as well.
