Every once in a while, I enjoy a solo adventure.
Usually around this time of year I would purchase a flight, pack my bags & head to a destination boasting white sand beaches, palm trees & sunshine … but this year has not been a typical year.
This year, International travel is not encouraged & many white sand beaches are closed. Flights are more stressful than exciting, and isolation on arrival is not quite as inviting as the tropical adventures that I often crave … so I took to Instagram to find the perfect getaway (close to home).
With “comfortable adventure” being my favorite way to travel, obviously “Glamping” was my chosen keyword & I found myself jumping with joy when I came across the first photos of Elk Island Retreat and their Geodestic Dome accommodations.
Not only did this glamping option fit perfectly into my domestic travel plans, but Elk Island Retreat is located less than an hour from my home in Edmonton making it an easy drive to commune with nature & the perfect alternative to a mountains trip.
Arriving at Elk Island Retreat I was greeted by the friendly faces of my hosts & given a tour of my home for the next few days.
Like something out of a fairy-tale, I already knew that this little slice of paradise would be very easy to enjoy & very difficult to leave. Boasting forest views, and every creature comfort that a luxury camper could need, I was ready to whip out my credit card & stay forever.
Located just a short drive from the West Gate entrance to Elk Island National Park, Elk Island Retreat is not only the perfect place to relax but the perfect jump-off point for adventures in the park if you find yourself interested in exploring.
From the beach at Astotin Lake and its shoreline trail to Shirley Lake and Wood Bison Trail (both perfect for spotting wildlife) there are many beautiful trails and views to explore during the day before heading home to your dome for sunset over neighboring fields & an evening under the stars.
In addition to their Geodestic Domes, Elk Island Retreat also offers campsites, RV sites, Tipi & Yurt Accommodations, so you can easily choose another accommodation style that works best for you.
Book your stay at Elk Island Retreat today & be sure let me know which accommodation you would pick for your perfect getaway in the comments.
